MadMen Appeal Picture

SO it is really hard to get a good picture of these window sticker things. They keep their windows really clean and shiny there. They haven't changed out the image yet like I hoped they would have but I'll check again on my break today.

It was hard to get a good picture, the employees were looking at me funny and so were mall goers.

MadMen Appeal

I feel like MadMen has changed modern advertising this year(at least for Christmas). I am a mall employee(I work at Hot Topic, the kinda lame, but good enough, alternative music and clothing store) and when I leave to go on my break I keep seeing ass this vintage-y imagery in advertisements. The one I like it in the window of one of those engraving places. They have two different window stickers that they have been rotating in and out for the last month or so. One is of the perfect 50s Nuclear family. Blond Wife. Tall, dark, handsome Dad. Two kids, a boy and a girl. And their dog. Mom looks like Betty Draper, Dad looks like hes is supposed to look like Don(but really, can anyone be as good looking as him *swoon*) The little girl looks older than the little boy. And Mom is sitting on some sort of Mid-Century Modern chair. I need to get a picture of it. They just changed over to the other window sticker so I can't promise I can get one. The second one is theses two women from the back. They are both wearing overcoats and full skirted, knee length dresses with high heels. They are carrying bags and hat boxes and are wearing nice little hats. It is very cute. I enjoy seeing them when I walk around. Also in Macy's entrance from the mall there is a mannequin with nice vintage-y hair and in this gorgeous black dress. It has three quarter length sleeves, a full skirt and a great rolled collar. I know everyone likes a classic Christmas type look but I really think the success of MadMen is what's fueling all of this. And Frankly, I don't give a damn! I love seeing it. It makes the mall suck a little less.

I'll try to get pictures of all of the stuff! Luckily I don't go back until Monday! Yay! Weekend Off! Now I'm off to get ready to go to a Christmas Sale/event at my local vintage shop/tattoo parlor!

Kitschmas TUNES!

SO with it being Kitschmas time I figured I'd do a post about my favorite christmas albums. I love the Kitschmas season almost as much as I love halloween!

Christmas Caravan is MY FAVORITE christmas album to listen to! The Squirrel Nut Zippers are amazing. I love seeing them and I love this album! I couldn't find it anywhere for years and I finally bought it on iTunes. Though I wanted a physical copy. Oh yes, back to the album. SO My favorite song is either "Winter Weather" or "Gift of the Magi" Overall the whole album is really good and isn't very Jesus-y (which I am a fan of.)

Tennessee Ernie Ford "The Best of Christmas" is really that, the best. It is the perfect thing if you are into classic christmas sound. It is full of great songs that Tennessee does amaingly, as usual. My favorite might be his rendition of "White Christmas" I would say pick this one up if you like him, or like a nice classic christmas sound.

No Christmas is complete without Elvis's "White Christmas" This is usually the first album to be put on during the christmas season. I love the man, what can I say? My favorite off the album is "Blue Christmas" his version is my favorite christmas song to listen to! It is classic to say the least!

I also have a Johnny Cash one I like. And the ELF soundtrack rocks real hard! There is some great stuff on there. What are your favorites? I know I missed classics.

Baby, it's cold outside! (Better put on a coat!!)

So this is my new coat! I bought it from RetroRenegadeVintage on Etsy. That seller is AMAZING! Her name is Jerri and she does a great job with shipping and sells great things. The coat has little to no damage. The only way I knew it wasn't deadstock was a little bit of collar discoloration (pomade collar!) Its a little less warm than I thought it was going to be so I think Im going to make a liner for it. Something soft that I can take out at the beging of spring and still wear it.

In my post yesterday I mentioned getting a shirt and slacks for $25. The shirt was $10 and it is soo nice! I wore it today there isn't anything too wrong with it. I think I stained it in one spot(though I'm not sure if I did. It could have been there.) For some reason when I buy vintage i buy a lot of browns. This is just another one on the pile. I need to fix a couple things on the slacks. There are two little holes I didn't see before I bought it and can fix with some fabric cut off the hem behind it. I don't like that they aren't pleated, which I usually prefer, but ther color is nice. I can't wait to go back to Beck's so we can go shopping there again. But I'm bringing more money so I can buy more stuff. Everything was so affordable and in pretty good condition and if it wasn't it was even cheaper.

A weekend in wonderland(Suburban Wonderland that is)

So this weekend I spent my time out tward Boston living with my friend Beck and her asshole cat(who I love) Dolemite. I love spending the weekend there. Her home, is exactly that, Home. I get to sleep in the cowboy room. We always do somthing fun like go shopping or watch good movies. This weekend we watched "CRazy Love" which you need to see if you haven't! But the main event of this weekend was of course The Raging Teen's Holiday Hoedown!



I have wanted to go to a Raging Teens show for so long and I finally had the chance so Beck picked me up at work on Friday night and we headed out to her house for a weekend of 50s style fun in Suburban Wonderland. The first thing we did once in her neck of the woods was head to Sonic, because really what else do Beck and I eat? Nothing(is the answer.) After Sonic, which was delicious, we headed to the house to hang out with Dolemite and watch movies. As I said we watched "Crazy Love" which was amazing but half way through we were so tired we paused it for the night.

The next morning Beck and I finished the craziness that is "Crazy Love" then decided to pick out clothes for the show and then go shopping. I had never been to the Garment DIstrict so Beck decided we had to. Well I am more than happy we went there. They had a great men's vintage section. I got some trousers(with a few fixable flaws) and a nice shirt from the 50s for $25. Ill post pictures of them later. From there we went to Sonic again. We love it there, but we hate their music. We went home and decided we should get ready for that night so I played domestic godess and did all the ironing and picking out of clothes for the night then we watched somee Beyonce music videos and headed out.(Now if you are questioning why We would EVER want to watch Beyonce videos the answer is, we love a good drag show.)

The show was amazing as expected. I met some great people I hope to see aagin in the near future. After the show we trugged our way through the snow to the car(on the top level of the parking garage, unprotected from the elements) and made our way to the nice warm house for more movie watching. "The Girl Can't Help It" was the choice of the evening. Wel got tired and finished the movie in the morning again. And after watching Jayne Mansfield biography we watched "Pillow Talk"(which there was very little actual pillow talk but a lot of Doris Day being a shrew) After that we headed back to Western Mass. Now I sit here in my, not cowboy room not in suburban wonderland, and hate being back in the real world.

Last Friday I was off of school and my gal Friday, Beck was home for Thanksgiving so we spent the day thrifting like motherbitches. We made out pretty well I must say. I spent about $30. $6 on two of my pattern dishes(that I had never seen before then) The seller had 6, Beck bought 4 I bought 2. $1 on a super kitsch "Music To Live By" record. Around $3 on an eff-ton of records that included Tennessee Ernie Ford, The Inkspots and the "South Pacific" soundtrack and some amazing 45s(two of which I will talk about later." But the Best purchase of the day was a pair of lamps. I got them $20. I had spotted them about 3 months ago and asked for the price. They called me with it because the seller wasn't there(they ended up saying $35 in the message). My phone has died at the time so they held the lamps for the day or until they heard from me. Well I forgot to call them back and figured I lost the lamps forever and hadn't gone back until last week. Well I went into the cold furniture room and what did my eyes see? The lamps I wanted. And they were marked oown to $20. So I snatched those babies up. I didn't care if they worked or anything. I just bought all of my goods and left.

So this is one of the lamps. They are green with gold spots. The Fiberglass shades really take the cake. The two of the shades are well worth the $20 so I knew they were worth buying, working or not.



These are my two record scores. My favorite Johnny Cash song "ballad of a Teenage Queen" and from Annette Funicello's Hawaiianette "Pineapple Princess" I got them for ten cents each.

To say the least it was an amazing day of thrifting. We are doing it again in a couple weeks. I hope to find more treasures. Yesterday I got my 1940s wool coat in so I will post about that soon. It is AMAING! I love it! Now I just can't wait for it to get colder!!!

Merry Kitschmas!

You can see a few of my collected items. Like my 1950s Zenith and blond end table. I love putting together sets for shoots. I couldn't find an alluminum tree to use(one that I could afford that is. They go for about $200 around here) I'll post pictures of the girls I shot(there were 6) but I wanted to intorduce myself a little.

I'm 18. I live in Massachusetts. I've collected vintage and dressed in vintage for about 4 years.(I haven't changed my hair in four years, haha) I have recently jumped into the pinup world, as a photographer (though I know those photos might say "next Big Pinup Model") I'm working on making myself a studio so I can do it on the side to make money, but more to keep me happy.

I've made some great vintage purchases lately I will post a picture once my camera battery isn't dead. SO Tomorrow.
